Abstract
The qualitative and quantitative determination of pesticidal residues in food products, livestock and poultry feeds, and man’s general environment is of increasing public interest. Federal government, state governments, universities, and private concerns are becoming increasingly concerned with rapid, accurate, and reliable methods for monitoring residue levels. The inherent problems encountered in the development of analytical methods are indicated by the large number of pesticides1 in use2 and their wide varieties of application. The problem is further complicated by the appearance of metabolic and degradation products after application of these pesticides. The characteristics of the residue may be markedly affected by these changes and in many cases the altered compound has a greater mammalian toxicity than the parent compound.
