Abstract

Residual insecticides, such as the chlorinated hydrocarbon type, are important for economical, effective, long-lasting pest control on forage crops as well as on grain, fruit, and vegetable crops. However, some regulatory agencies are reluctant to accept them for this use because animals fed rations containing residues of these chemicals tend to accumulate secondary residues in their milk and fat tissues. A partial but often useful solution to this problem is to determine conditions under which these insecticides can be used on forage crops without leaving any significant residue at harvest. Since dosage is fixed by various practical considerations, the time-degradation characteristics of the residue become the determining factor.

This paper was presented at the XVIII International Congress of the Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry held in Montreal, Canada, August 6—12, 1961.
