Abstract
The major scientific issues and policy options are reviewed in an attempt to present a comprehensive picture of the acid rain problem in North America. It is found that several scientific problems still remain to be resolved, but there is a relatively good understanding of emissions of acidifying substances, their transport and chemical transformation, and their ultimate deposition.
