Abstract

Our workshop on “Effects of Contamination on Reuse of Concrete” is primarily concerned with reuse of concrete as aggregate in new concrete. Emphasis will be on identifying gaps in knowledge and research needs. Valuable background information has already been provided by the lecture on “Contamination Problems in the Recycling of Concrete” by Professor Young1. To help establish the scope of the workshop, a contaminant will be defined as:

  1. 1.

A material present in the concrete to be recycled which was not present in the concrete as originally cast.

  2. 2.

Any material in concrete to be recycled which would be detrimental to the proposed reuse of the concrete.
