Abstract
A proposed operational underwater acoustical imaging system using sound holography is described. The performance of the imaging system depends on operational requirements of the user, physical constraints caused by space and power limitations, and the characteristics of each of the essential elements of the system. Each of these factors is discussed from a systems standpoint, with particular emphasis on the performance requirements of the necessary acoustical array, electronic processing, and optical reconstruction and display techniques. A brief summary is given of the status of current developmental programs at Bendix aimed at satisfying the above system requirements.
