Abstract

The state of the theory of models for populations with sex interaction is much less satisfying than what regards one-sex branching processes. Presumably this is one of the main reasons for the use of branching process models also in sexual populations. However, a vague justification would be an intuitive feeling that in large populations fluctuations in sex ratio are quite small and hence the branching process approximation quite good.
