Abstract
As is known, when some surfactants (e.g. some aliphatic alcohols) spread on a water surface with a great velocity (cm sec−1), they Carry the underlying water with them. This phenomenon, known as the Gibbs-Marangoni effect, as shown by the authors, also occurs when water is present as a thin film covering the surface of a coarse dispersed material like quartz sand.
