Abstract
Monoamine oxidase (MAO; E.C. 1.4.3.4) and catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT; E.C. 2.1.1.6) are key enzymes involved in the catabolism of the putative CNS neurotransmitters, dopamine and noradrenaline (Molinoff and Axelrod, 1971). A knowledge of the cellular and intracellular localization of these enzymes in nervous tissue is therefore pertinent to an understanding of the mechanisms involved in transmitter inactivation.
