Abstract
Much is now known about the adverse health consequences of alcohol abuse. Even relatively naive high-school children are aware of the hepatic consequences of excessive use of alcohol such as cirrhosis, ascites, and jaundice. The more knowledgeable and possibly more alcohol-experienced also know that ethanol is a pancreatic toxin and is the most common cause of pancreatic inflammatory disease in males and in most large general populations of both men and women Few, however, are aware of the cardiovascular consequences of alcohol use and/or abuse.
