Abstract

A reinforced plastic, or composite, is a polymer resin matrix combined with a reinforcing agent or agents. The reinforcement improves strength and stiffness properties, compared to the neat resin. Almost every type of thermoplastic or thermosetting resin can be reinforced. “Hybrid” composites combine more than one type of reinforcement, such as carbon and glass fibers.
