Abstract
Considering the enormous diversity of plastics materials and the processes by which they are made into products, it becomes a formidable task to try to summarize in a single chapter any basic rules of product design. Although this chapter concentrates on products made by the injection or compression molding process, readers should note that different parameters apply when the part is blow-molded or ther-moformed or made by any of the reinforced plastics molding processes. Wherever possible, this type of information has been included in the specific chapter pertaining to an individual process (readers are especially referred to the excellent design charts in Chapter 18).
