X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopic Study of the Electronic Structure of Poly-P-Phenylene Sulfide

  • Chapter
Physicochemical Aspects of Polymer Surfaces

Abstract

Core and valence levels of poly-p-phenylene sulfide have been examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Atomic charges distribution and characteristics of the C-S bond are obtained by comparison with related molecules such as (di)phenyl sulfide and (di)benzyl sulfide. The degree of the π electron delocalization in the polymeric chain and the amplitude of the energy gap are compared with previous results on poly-p-phenylene.
