Abstract
Activity change of reticular neurons was observed in relation to single movements of head, neck, forelimb and facial muscles in unrestrained cats (Siegel and McGinty, 1977; Siegel, 1979). Congruent results were reported in the rat (Vertes, 1979). However, the relation of these reticular activity to single parts of movement is not elucidated. In the preceding work we observed depression of reticular unit activity connected with the execution of the forelimb movement and not with the preparatory phase (Šaling et al., 1985). The observed changes can be related to the forelimb movement itself or to the postural adjustments, accompanying this movement, or maybe to somesthetic feedback from the periphery. In the present paper we have therefore analyzed the relation of reticular unit activity to the postural changes or to the forelimb movement itself. The given problem was studied by means of the modified model of the “handedness of rat”.
