Abstract

An extension of Kukhtarev’s single-carrier model of photorefractive charge transport to allow simultaneous photo-excitation of both holes and electrons improves agreement with a wide variety of data in many crystals. This indicates that electron-hole competition plays a much wider role than previously suspected. This competition does not however reduce the advantages of using moving gratings to enhance grating strength.
