Are Phasons Observable in Optics?

  • Chapter
Laser Optics of Condensed Matter

Abstract

It is shown that the existence of the phason gap caused by point defects dramatically affects the integral intensity of light scattering from phasons. From the estimates, the possibility of observation of such scattering seems to be highly problematic even for a nominally pure crystal that contains defects of concentration N ~ 1018 cm-3.
