Inertial Confinement Fusion by Light Ion Beam

  • Chapter
Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena

Abstract

Recently, inertial confinement fusion (ICF) by light ion beam (LIB) has been persured and seems to be possible alternative driver to the laser due to the progress in the pulse power technology1. The basic and most important issues in comparison with the laser are the capability of the power concentration and transport which is not the problem in the light beam. The high efficiency of beam generation, low cost per output energy can be the desirable features of the driver for the fusion reactor in the future developments.
