Abstract

Iron metabolism is disturbed in the presence of megaloblastic marrow associated with untreated pernicious anemia. Red cell maturation and differentiation is reduced (Nathan and Gardner, 1962), the absolute and percentage reticulocyte count is lower than normal (Murphy and Howard, 1957; Heilmeyer, 1964), and many of the reticulocytes are immature (Heilmeyer, 1970).
