Intelligent Triggering of Multigated Studies

Abstract

The object of the work is the development of universal triggering method for multi-gated studies, so that several different representative cycles can be acquired simultaneously. The commonly used method takes the physiological signal (e.g.ECG, respiratory movement, EMG, etc), it electronically detects the most significant structure (R-wave, inspirium peak, etc) and triggers the computer acquisition of scintigraphic data. Using existing commercial systems, differentiation among different events is based on their time duration and it is impossible to resolve timely similar cycles.

In our laboratory, the computer controlled triggering was developed. By means of an additional microprocessor the physiological signal is structure analysed and the trigger code for a chosen shape is sent to scintigraphic acquisition system. For ECG recognition in equilibrium gated radionuclide ventriculography a two-parametric (interval derivative and area) image was created from short record and the limit area for each differentiable ECG structure was selected and used in real time scintigraphic data triggering.

Currently, the intelligent gated list-mode acquisition is used for separate reconstruction of representative heart cycles of regular sinus beats, ventricular and/or supraventricular extrasystoles and postextrasystolic beats.
