Abstract
Infertility is defined in the United States as diminished fertility, as opposed to sterility, which is the total inability to reproduce. Primary infertility is the failure to conceive at any time. Secondary infertility is the failure to conceive after one or more successful pregnancies. In both cases, the diagnosis should not be made until the patient has remained infertile for at least one year after attempting pregnancy.
