Fiber-Matrix Bonding in Steel Fiber-Reinforced Cement-Based Composites

  • Chapter
Book cover Fracture Mechanics of Ceramics

Abstract

The process of load transfer between the matrix and the fiber in steel fiber-reinforced cement-based composites is reviewed. The debonding and pull-out behaviour of individual fibers, both plain and deformed, is described and related to the mechanical behaviour and properties of the composite. In particular, the effects of variation in the effective fiber/matrix interfacial bond strength on the properties of the composite under uniaxial tensile and flexural loading conditions are discussed.
