Impact Damage in Ceramics

  • Chapter
Flaws and Testing

Part of the book series: Fracture Mechanics of Ceramics ((FMOC,volume 3))

Abstract

The modes of impact damage that occur in ceramic materials are described, and the present status of damage analyses that define the dependence of the damage on the primary projectile and material variables is discussed. Finally, the implications of the damage characterization for the prediction of strength degreda-tion and erosion are assessed.
