Abstract

Diffeomorphisms and flows on tori are of particular importance from various points of view. It might at first seem that this is a very special class of dynamical systems. However, this is not so: many important dynamical systems turn out to be nonergodic and their phase spaces split into invariant tori (see ยง3, Chap. 2).
