Abstract

The presence of a lipolytic enzyme has been demonstrated in a variety of tissue preparations of the heart (2–10). This enzyme has been referred to rather indiscriminately as “lipoprotein lipase,” a term which was introduced by Korn (2). According to Korn this lipase was extracted from rat heart acetone powder in an ammonia buffer in the presence of heparin; the enzyme had little activity unless the substrate which was a coconut oil emulsion (Ediol) was “activated” by serum.

As stated by Robinson (1) the term “clearing factor lipase” is preferred in this communication.
