Introduction to Multifractality

  • Chapter
Disorder and Fracture

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSB,volume 204))

Abstract

We introduce the basic concepts of multifractality by considering the example of the current distribution inside a random resistor network right at the percolation threshold. An infinite set of critical exponents governs the scaling of the moments of the distribution of currents with the system size. The “Legendre transform” of this series is shown to be connected to the histogram of the current distribution, through the formalism of multifractality.
