Kinship and Inbreeding in Populations of Middle Eastern Origin and Controls

  • Chapter
Current Developments in Anthropological Genetics

Part of the book series: Advances in Human Genetics ((CDAG,volume 2))

Abstract

From the Levant to the Bay of Bengal lies a swath of populations with preferential consanguineous marriage, the effects of which are poorly understood. Here we examine the structure of these populations, certain descendant groups, and exogenous populations called controls that are analyzed in the same way. The contrast throws new light on the biological effects of consanguineous marriage.
