Automatic Data Processing in the Clinical Lungfunction Laboratory

  • Chapter
Computers in Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine

Abstract

Approximately 15,000 lung function measurements are performed yearly on about 4,000 patients. The off-line automatic data processing (ADP) of the hand measured values is 4 years in use now and has resulted in:

  • a capacity increase of 20%,

  • a greater accuracy in calculation which implies an improvement of the quality of comparisons between patients’ data and reference values, and

  • a standardisation of the lung-function report.
