Abstract
In the past measurement of alveolar pressure patterns has required the insertion of uncomfortable esophageal balloon catheters. We have developed a Plethysmographic method to measure alveolar pressure during forced expirations. We use a DEC PDP 11/10 computer to sample Plethysmograph pressure and pneumotach flow at .002 second intervals. After correcting for heat exchange effects, data are displayed as flow/volume and flow/alveolar pressure plots.
