Psychological Aspects of Selected Medical Disorders

  • Chapter
Comprehensive Handbook of Psychopathology

Abstract

Psychology is rapidly becoming an increasingly integral part of modern health-care-delivery systems. This trend is reflected in hospitals, clinical psychology training programs, and medical schools by the appearance of new programs with labels such as behavioral medicine, holistic medicine, and environmental medicine. In increasing numbers, medical, psychology, and nursing students are also looking to psychology for concepts and techniques that will enhance their understanding of health and illness.
