Behavioral Disorders Associated with Central Nervous System Dysfunction

  • Chapter
Comprehensive Handbook of Psychopathology

Abstract

In this chapter, we consider the behavioral disorders associated with central nervous system dysfunction, particularly brain dysfunction. The chapter is organized into three major sections. In the first, we discuss a variety of topics of importance to the explication and understanding of the organic mental disorders and the behavioral consequences of neurological disease. In the second, specific brain disorders are considered in terms of the clinical symptomatology, biological aspects (including genetics), psychological changes, environmental-sociocultural aspects, and treatment. A brief summary and research directions for the future comprise the third section.
