Sexual Deviations

  • Chapter

Abstract

Our society has witnessed a host of changes of values, mores, and attitudes regarding sexual behavior in the last 50 years. Many forms of sexual behaviors, some of which were previously considered “perverted” or “sick,” are becoming acceptable and even desirable. These changed attitudes toward sexual activity involve not only heterosexual behaviors such as oral-genital contact, but also sexual orientation. For example, homosexuality is now considered by some people a permissible alternative to heterosexual relationships, and there are active, organized attempts to reverse the legal and social sanctions against homosexuality (Davison, 1976).
