Abstract
Studies of teenage parenting have failed to demonstrate strong relationships between multivariate predictors of development and most measures of developmental outcome (Furstenburg, 1976; Quay, 1981; Roosa, Fitzgerald, & Carlson, 1982c, 1985). One reason for this failure is that most of the relationships investigated are confounded by other relationships with the independent and/or dependent variables used. For example, confounding often occurs with socioeconomic status (SES), race, marital status, or age of mother (cf. Blank, 1976; Sameroff, 1975; Social Research Group, 1977).
