Abstract
This chapter introduces terminology for the specification of a problem instance, containing a domain description, a partial description of initial conditions and a description of goal conditions. After formalizing the concept of a problem instance in Section 4.1, we define the behavior of sound and complete control systems for such problem instances. In Section 4.2, we focus on the class of control systems that perform advance conditional planning. Finally, Section 4.3 discusses related research in the area of conditional and contingent planning.
