Abstract
This chapter details AMICAL, a VHDL behavioral synthesis tool allowing design reuse. AMICAL starts with a VHDL behavioral description and an external library of functional modules. AMICAL provides methods for abstracting large existing cores in order to reuse them as black boxes within behavioral description. It issues the FSMC model as intermediate form. This model allows to handle large functional units as co-processors. AMICAL allows interactivity in addition to a pure automatic execution mode.
