Abstract
In my comments on the Katz-Benavente chapter I shall concentrate on two important issues they raised, namely the phases of industrial development and the role of the government. I find a great similarity between the events that took place in Latin American countries as mentioned in the chapter and the stages of economic development that my country, Egypt, has been and is going through.
