Abstract
In examining the subject of unit functional testing we will look at the whole scope of the subject. We will define the process, examine the choice of manual or automated testing, look at the process of choosing a tester, show how to reach a make or buy decision for the actual tester and finally examine the tests themselves. For single board power supplies it may be possible to perform all the testing in one pass, where the tester has both in-circuit test (ICT) capability and functional power supply test capability. One company in fact designed and sold such a unit but for a variety of reasons did not remain in the power supply test market for long.
