Abstract
The production of crops at times other than during normal seasonal periods has only been practiced relatively recently. In the tropics and subtropics, many kinds of vegetables can be and are grown in abundance practically all year round, and usually little if any climate modifications is necessary. However, in temperate climates, certain crops are almost impossible to grow from late autumn through winter due to cold temperatures, and others are difficult to grow during high summer temperatures. In these regions some “off-season” vegetable production is possible when farmers are capable of modifying the temperature portion of a crop’s growth environment.
