Part 2: Providing the Scientific Information that Conservation Practitioners Need

  • Chapter
The Ecological Basis of Conservation

Abstract

To understand the impact of our science on the practice of conservation, ecologists and other environmental scientists need to realize that the information we provide is ultimately used, or ignored, by people with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. I am pleased that this volume, and the conference from which it was derived, incorporates the views and opinions not just of scientists, but also of conservation practitioners. Conservation practitioners include both people who make regulations and laws and practicing land and natural resource managers in the private and in the public arenas.
