Role of Ecto-ATPases, Based on Histochemical Investigations

Evidences and Doubts

  • Chapter
Ecto-ATPases

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate whether some correlation maybe found between the localization of ecto-ATPases and their supposed function in different tissues of several species. We used ultrahistochemical methods, which are appropriate for localizing putative enzyme activity, but provide only a crude measure of activity. The results seem to support the hypothesis that the roles of ecto-ATPases vary in different tissues, and includes elimination of synaptically released ATP and cell adhesion processes.
