Abstract

Sharply edged carrier density profiles, high in the conduction band of semiconductors, can induce absorption edge singularities similar to those found in X-ray spectra of metals, also known as “Mahan excitons”. These singularities, which have a power-law behavior, are the consequence of the interaction between the whole Fermi sea and the photocreated hole.
