Abstract

Leif Aarthun Ims, Borgar Torre Olsen, Dagfinn Myhre This chapter summarises some of the techno-economic assessment of broadband access network upgrade strategies presented in previous chapters. Main conclusions are drawn with respect to key issues faced by the infrastructure providers. The techno-economic studies from which the main findings are extracted, reflect the diversity in demographics, competition, market segmentation, demand for new services and corresponding network upgrade alternatives experienced by the network operators of today. The results emphasise the importance of factors like the quality of the existing infrastructure and demography, civil work costs, technology choice, roll-out year and capacity demand for the assessment of access network upgrade strategies [1,2] 1.
