Abstract

This chapter gives a brief description of the general structure of TITAN (tool for introduction strategies and techno-economic evaluation of access network) and how the methodology described in the previous chapters has been implemented in Excel® spreadsheet software. The development of the TITAN tool started from the SYNTHESYS tool, which had been developed by the evolution prospects and frameworks (EPF) group of the RACE (research for advanced communications in Europe) project 1044, entitled Integrated broadband communications development and implementation strategies. The SYNTHESYS tool contained the core functionality of the TITAN methodology, including the SYNTHESYS geometric model. However, at that stage the whole tool was implemented as one very large Excel© 3 sheet, which made its use fairly cumbersome.
