Spatial Data Analysis

A cross-sectional US data set is analyzed in this book to test for the existence of university impacts on high technology activities. A research design like this needs specialized empirical methods to be properly implemented. The appropriate analytical techniques called spatial data analysis have been developed in the field. Because the underlying philosophy of spatial data analysis is fundamentally different from the more familiar time series econometrics, the basic structure of this field is introduced in a separate chapter1. Additionally, this chapter reviews empirical research techniques that are employed in this book.
