Abstract
When the effect of a drug is studied, usually only the concentration of that single drug is varied. There are clinically important reasons in favor of investigating dose-effect relationships of combinations of drugs as well, especially where anti-epileptic pharmaca are concerned. In the first place patients are often treated with more than one drug, as in polytherapy or add-on therapy (1,2). Secondly, substances that affect the excitability of the central nervous system are always present endogenously, in varying concentrations, such as GABA or neuroactive steroids (3). In the third place anti-epileptic drugs may interact with pharmaca prescribed on other indications, e.g. for anesthesia (4).
