Intramyocardial Po2 Measured By Epr

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 428))

Abstract

Oxygen is essential for normal cardiac function and plays an important role in cardiac regulation (Neely 1974, Vergroesen 1987). How pO2 is controlled or even at what level this control occurs (Spaan, 1993), is still not clear. Myocardial pO2 reflects the dynamic equilibrium between oxygen consumption (MV02) and oxygen delivery in the myocardium and direct measurement of myocardial pO2 would help to understand this relationship.
