Abstract
In this chapter, the language portability of a rule-based case frame parser and its performance stability for an increase in domain coverage are analyzed. This part of the work was primarily motivated by the availability of large amounts of data in the ARPA-ATIS domain and by the possibility to evaluate the performance of the parser using the official MADCOW evaluation paradigm and ARPA-ATIS benchmark test data. The rule-based parser also enabled an automatic semantic data labeling. As described in Chapter 5, the stochastic parser was initially developed on the basis of these semantic labels.
