Economics as a Social Science: Approach, Applications and Interdisciplinarity

  • Chapter
Economics as a Science of Human Behaviour

Abstract

During the last few years a new approach has emerged in the social sciences. Originating in economics it has also found supporters in the neighbouring social sciences and beyond. This new development has only partly been recognized in traditional economics. In other sciences, the new view is either unknown to many scholars, or is fiercely attacked. The critique is often based on misunderstandings or distortions which, to some extent, are the result of insufficient knowledge. One of the main reasons for these shortcomings is the lack of a comprehensive exposition of these new developments.
