Abstract

Chronic arterial hypertension induces specific functional and structural alterations of both the myocardium and the coronary microcirculation which can be summarised as hypertensive remodelling. Hypertensive remodelling reflects the fundamental reorganisation of the heart at the level of [1] the myocytes, [2] the extracellular matrix and [3] the vascular structure and endothelial cells.
