The Etiology of Growth Hormone Deficiency in the Human Adult

Part of the book series: Endocrine Updates ((ENDO,volume 4))

Abstract

Although growth hormone (GH) deficiency in human adults is now recognised as a specific clinical syndrome (1–2) and the effects of GH replacement have been extensively studied (1–2), little systematic information exists regarding the etiology of GH-deficiency acquired in adulthood. This may be explained by the fact that until recently most physicians considered GH to have little function in adulthood and it is only in the last decade that this topic has received widespread attention.
