Abstract
In this text I have explored a number of issues about the conceptualization, representation, measurement and interpretation of economic performance. In this treatment I have attempted to link many threads of thought to identify where models are similar (even if not obvious) and differ (even if there are clear linkages that could be drawn on). I have also posed questions about how to interpret models that must by definition be a limited representation of the myriad technical, economic and other forces at work in markets that determine the observed performance of firms, sectors and economies.
