Abstract
Generation and trapping of nitric oxide with heme proteins during the rejection of heart allograft intensifies paramagnetic properties of the rejecting tissue due to the generation of nitrosyl-heme complexes. This makes it possible to correlate the strength of the observed EPR signal with the intensity of rejection and to monitor its time course. The above relation are now well documented by several independent findings. The reader may find its detailed discussion in Chapter 11.
